Say the word pizza and most people instantly start craving those crusty slices of goodness – the stringy cheese, the thick or thin base and, off course, the delight in deciding your choice of favourite toppings.
In celebration of the pizza, the team at BOZ set out on a ‘pizza hunt’ at five local establishments to find five toppings that’s a must. So here we go (in no particular order):
- The Clay Oven
Apart from the spectacular sea view, this Mtunzini restaurant’s pizza menu should be on one’s bucket list! There are quite a number of toppings to choose from, but of all, the one with the biggest wow factor must be ‘The Works’. It literally has the works! One can choose between a standard size (R79) or large (R99).
- The George Hotel
The ‘town on the hill’ offers more than rich culture. The George Hotel in eShowe is known for its delicious wood oven pizzas. Locals say the best topping has to be pineapple, bacon and avo (oh, and sometimes peppadew). What’s great about their pizzas is that one can choose your very own toppings. Two toppings (R85), three toppings (R95).
- Chane Cheese Farm
Take a short right onto a dirt road on the R618 towards St Lucia and you’ll find a little piece of country living magic – and more top quality wood oven pizzas. Scouting the menu, what caught our eye was the ‘Hot as a mother’ listing. It received full marks for taste, but a word of caution – it is not for those who can’t handle a little ‘heat’. (R85)
- The Outpost Restaurant & Bar
Even if you had a disastrous round on the neighbouring golf course, you can at least regain your composure with one of the Outpost’s magnificent pizzas. Tucked away on the Richards Bay Golf Estate, this family restaurant’s pizzas are known for being packed with flavour. Try their signature pizza ‘The Outpost’. It has everything on it to make the pizza ‘el delicioso’! (R90)
- Porky’s Seafood & Steakhouse
What’s not to love about a pizza with mega meaty flavour? The Don Pizza at Porky’s Restaurant is a must. At R120 it’s worth every cent. Delight your taste buds with a combination of crispy crust and meaty flavour explosion. Located at the Richards Bay Waterfront.
